The first group started training on Saturday. If the manipulatives can hold the attention of adults so well, we have great optimism for the children who will come for tutoring.

All is now ready to begin training instructors for the Math Centre on Saturday.

We have been receiving applications and interviewing prospective instructors for the math centre. We have met some wonderful young people (mostly university students) whom we would be proud to have help us. Now all we need is students!
The prep for the room is going ahead. The workmen found a nest of bees behind the far wall and they were removed together with their honey!  The wall will now be patched.
There have been a couple of VIP visits (governors of other counties) and helicopters have landed on the golf course. The town no longer has an airstrip for various complicated reasons of land title and other squabbles. Yes, they have to pay a landing fee and the children enjoy the spectacle.

Math tutoring centre

On Monday we completed the contract with Geoffrey who will be our business administrator and instructional supervisor for the centre. Geoffrey was one of our 'job training' successes. We swung by the school where we have a classroom and set things in motion for power installation and clean up. we know they will act fast. Applications for instructors are starting to come in from university students after we met with two students who are working with Tembo in Virtues and community development. All we pray for now are students to register for the opening at the end of the month.

karibu Kenya

Left Victoria Wed., arrived Kakamega Sat eve. Nairobi was cold and wet (about 16') and Kakamega not much better. The rains have started really early. At least it's too cold for the mosquitoes! Apt in good shape (a little dusty, but who worries about that!) Compound also good, and we have cows again. Our vehicle has acted up, traced to  a broken wire to the alternator which meant it wasn't charging. Blessings on the inventor of jumper cables!  We've started to catch up on the news and set up the Math Centre. Stay tuned!

Virtues, Read for the Top: a winning formula

Just heard that Isecheno Pri which has benefited from donor funds for Read for the Top, Virtues and scholarships to secondary was the most improved school in the district and in the county this year! Their scores have made a huge jump.
